BATTERIES AND RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES
The service life, operating time and safety of batteries are strongly influenced by the way they are used, charged and stored. This page provides practical information about the NiMH batteries and built-in lithium-ion batteries used in PerfectPro products. Always consult the user manual for your specific product as well.
NiMH batteries
The chargers in compatible PerfectPro jobsite radios and PerfectPro rechargeable NiMH batteries are designed to work together. We therefore recommend using PerfectPro NiMH batteries when your radio supports charging these batteries inside the radio.
Universal and independent
PerfectPro uses universal battery sizes such as AA, C and D. These sizes are widely available and are not tied to a particular power-tool brand or battery platform. Depending on the product, you can use rechargeable NiMH batteries or non-rechargeable alkaline batteries. Before use, always check which battery type is specified in the manual for your radio.
Important information when using rechargeable NiMH batteries
For reliable operation and the longest possible service life, we recommend the following:
- Only set the charging switch in the battery compartment to the charging position when rechargeable NiMH batteries are installed. Never attempt to charge alkaline batteries.
- Before first use, fully charge new batteries in one uninterrupted charging cycle. This initial charge may take longer than a normal charging cycle.
- New NiMH batteries usually reach their full capacity only after several charge and discharge cycles.
- Always use a complete set of batteries of the same brand, type, capacity and preferably the same age. Do not mix fully charged and partly discharged batteries.
- With regular use, keep the batteries together as a complete set in the radio and do not use individual batteries from the set in other devices.
- Charge batteries at an ambient temperature between 5 °C and 35 °C. Charging performance and capacity may be reduced at very low or high temperatures.
- High-capacity batteries can take some time to charge. A moderate rise in temperature during charging is normal.
- Do not charge the batteries while the radio is hot or immediately after it has been exposed to a heat source or direct sunlight.
- Keep the metal contacts of the batteries and radio clean and dry. Use only suitable maintenance products and follow the instructions in the manual.
- During long-term storage, recharge NiMH batteries at least once every two months. Storing them unused and discharged for a long period can shorten their service life.
Warranty on PerfectPro NiMH batteries
PerfectPro NiMH batteries are inspected during and after production. As batteries are consumable items, they are not covered by the same warranty terms as jobsite radios. PerfectPro provides a one-year manufacturing warranty on PerfectPro NiMH batteries from the date of purchase. Within this period, batteries with a confirmed material, construction or manufacturing defect will be replaced following assessment.
The warranty does not cover:
- damage caused by incorrect use, misuse, negligence, modifications or accidents;
- normal wear, reduced capacity through use, or signs of use.
For a warranty claim, the NiMH batteries must be presented together with the relevant jobsite radio and the original invoice or another valid proof of purchase. This is necessary because a battery issue may also be caused by a fault in the radio’s charging circuit. Warranty claims are handled through your PerfectPro dealer.
Lithium-ion batteries
A lithium-ion battery has different characteristics from a NiMH battery. Lithium-ion batteries have a high energy density and relatively low self-discharge, and they do not need to be completely empty before being recharged. They have no traditional memory effect. However, available capacity will gradually decrease through normal use and ageing.
Many PerfectPro products with lithium-ion technology have a built-in battery and an electronic protection system. This system helps protect the battery against overcharging, deep discharge and overheating. It remains important to use the product correctly and charge it only as instructed in the product manual.
How to use a lithium-ion battery safely and preserve its capacity for as long as possible:
- Use only the specified charging cable, adapter or charger and follow the product manual.
- Protect the product against extreme heat, direct sunlight, frost, moisture and mechanical damage.
- Preferably charge the product at room temperature and not immediately after it has become very hot or cold.
- Do not leave a lithium-ion battery completely discharged for an unnecessarily long time. During long-term storage, recharge the product periodically as instructed in the manual.
- Operating time may temporarily decrease at low temperatures. Allow the product to return to a moderate temperature before charging.
- Do not open the product or attempt to remove, repair or replace a built-in lithium-ion battery yourself.
- Stop using and charging the product immediately if the battery or casing is damaged, deformed, unusually hot, leaking or producing an unusual smell.
Disposal and recycling
Batteries and products with a built-in rechargeable battery must not be disposed of with household waste. Take them to a suitable collection point, your dealer or another authorised collection facility so valuable materials can be recovered safely.
